CAIR “wants the producers of NBC’s Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (SVU) to meet with Muslim community leaders, in response to a controversial episode that aired last week, which viewers criticized for promoting Islamophobia and perpetuating harmful stereotypes.”
Strange. The CBS program “Living Biblically” is an entire series which mocks Christianity but is generally accepted as free expression, ignored by some, disgusting to some, watched and laughed at by others. That’s the extent of it. There are many programs in fact, that make fun of Christians, Indians, Chinese people, blacks, virtually everyone. But Islamic supremacists will not integrate into Western society where many Westerners engage in offensive humor and expression. Instead, there is a dramatic, embarrassing fallout when Muslims are insulted; a big hoopla which is characteristic of sharia societies if Muslims ever do feel insulted. Unfortunately, rather than encourage Muslims to adapt, many are enabling the same behaviors found in these countries. Islamic supremacists refuse to live peaceably in Western societies as Hindus, Buddhists and other religions adherents do without expectations of special treatment.
As for the sensitivities expressed about ridiculing Ilhan Omar in the episode, is there any politician mocked more than the current President of the United States, Donald Trump?
“Muslim Group Calls Out ‘Law & Order: SVU’ For Episode ‘Enflaming Islamophobia’”, by Marina Fang, Huffington Post, May 14, 2019:
A Muslim advocacy organization wants the producers of NBC’s “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (SVU)” to meet with Muslim community leaders, in response to a controversial episode that aired last week, which viewers criticized for promoting Islamophobia and perpetuating harmful stereotypes.
The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) said Monday that it wrote a letter to the show’s executive producer Dick Wolf to “urge you and your staff to meet with leaders of the Muslim community to learn why this episode makes the rising tide of bigotry even worse, and what you can to do mitigate the damage that has already been done.”
One of the episode’s storylines involved a character, city councilwoman Nahla Nasar, who appeared to be an exaggerated version of Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.). Omar has been the subject of bad-faith attacks from opponents who have falsely equated her support for Palestine with anti-Semitism.
CAIR said that the episode advanced “a ridiculous plot line that mocks the real hatred being experienced by real American Muslims and other minority communities,” executive director Nihad Awad wrote in the letter.
Afaf Nasher, the director of CAIR’s New York chapter, urged the show’s producers to “avoid enflaming Islamophobia,” warning that the episode may “lend a hand to anti-Muslim bigots.”
The group said the episode, which aired last Thursday, also “portrayed Muslim men in a negative light and suggested that growing Islamophobia in America is a hoax.”
A spokeswoman for NBC did not immediately return a request for comment on the letter and the criticism of the episode.
Last Thursday, social media users criticized the episode, which mashed together Nasar’s storyline with plot points inspired by two other real-life figures who sparked controversy: “Empire” actor Jussie Smollett and high school student Nicholas Sandmann…..
Shea says
man that shows still on , but way to go Law and Order!
mortimer says
Yes! Well done, Law and Order.
CAIR seems to be arguing that IT ISN’T ‘BIGOTRY’ when WE MUSLIMS DO IT … and YOU SHOULD NEVER CRITICIZE BIGOTRY when MUSLIMS DO IT.
Law and Order merely HIGHLIGHTS the DOUBLE STANDARDS that SOME Muslims want to impose on Americans.
Now here this, CAIR … “AMERICANS HATE DOUBLE STANDARDS”.
revereridesagain says
[“Spoiler alert!” Episode details will be exposed.] It was an outstanding L&O-SVU episode, which promoted not the fake “hate crime” of “Islamophobia” but upheld objective judgment as opposed to bigotry and jumping to conclusions. During the first half of the episode, a variety of characters representing various perspectives exhibit the latter behavior, only to be proven wrong as facts are uncovered.
My jaw dropped when a follower of sharia was actually called to account for his criminal behavior, which he justified by Islamic law. No wonder the THUGS and GOONS at CAIR have their panties in a twist. The character of councilwoman Nahar, who manipulates and slanders others to hide her lesbianism from her Syrian Muslim parents — who, of course, react not with denunciations but with protestations of pride and love — is treated with far too much compassion, but her deceit is unflinchingly exposed nonetheless. She is treated with justice by kafir investigators and attacked brutally by her own jealous Muslim ex-husband as well as by a thug wearing a prayer cap and screaming abuse. So CAIR is whining that Muslim men — the same Muslim men who can summarily divorce their wives via talaq — were “portrayed in a bad light”? That’s what following sharia with respect to women will lead to, boys.
Not enough attention is paid to the benevolent rabbi or the innocent teenage boys who are initially accused, but at least they are treated with fairness when the Omar-ish councilwoman tries to frame them! I urge NBC and the producers of L&O-SVU to ignore the wails and demands of CAIR. They have nothing to explain or to apologize for.

I disagree that they should ignore these “summon” by cair. I have an idea for stemming “the rising tide of [Muslim] bigotry” and mitigating “the damage that has been done” by Islamic supremacist groups like CAIR: the feds should declare the Muslim Brotherhood a terrorist organization. That would be a good start.

Once people look carefully at Islam and see its many INCOHERENCIES and ERRORS, they cannot believe in it or promote it.

———————-
“Innocence of Muslims” is an anti-Islamic short film that was written and produced by Nakoula Basseley Nakoula. Two versions of the 14-minute video were uploaded to YouTube in July 2012, under the titles The Real Life of Muhammad and Muhammad Movie Trailer. Videos dubbed in Arabic were uploaded during early September 2012. Anti-Islamic content had been added in post-production by dubbing, without the actors’ knowledge.
What was perceived as denigration of the Islamic prophet Muhammad resulted in demonstrations and violent protests against the video to break out on September 11 in Egypt and spread to other Arab and Muslim nations and to some western countries. The protests led to hundreds of injuries and over 50 deaths. Fatwas calling for the harm of the video’s participants were issued and Pakistani government minister Bashir Ahmad Bilour offered a bounty for the killing of Nakoula, the producer. The film has sparked debates about freedom of speech and Internet censorship.

Dear Mr. Wolf, I am alarmed that the Council on American Islamic Relations is demanding that NBC censor episodes of Law and Order. Please do not allow terror-linked CAIR to repress NBC programming content in order to conform to its Islamist ideology.
In fact, I would like to see a L&W episode based on a group like CAIR.
CAIR is long over due for some exposure because they are on TV everyday.
CAIR was on TV 60 times last December. From April to December of last year, CAIR was on TV 289 times in a 244 day time period. This past April, CAIR was on 55 times. This month, May, they have already been on 35 times. https://www.facebook.com/CAIRHATEREPORT/
Of course they are not that news worthy. That is why news coverage about them is either self promotion, nonsense stories, or hurting people.
Every month CAIR tries to get someone fired with the help of the media. Last year, 15 people and one elementary school play were shutdown, or fired by CAIR.
Every month, CAIR, with the help of the media, tries to get someone fired. They are very consistent in this. They may not always succeed, but they always try.
Indeed, last year CAIR caused terminations, threatened livelihoods, or adversely affected the careers of people who did nothing more than say something on their Facebook page that CAIR did not like. In 2018, there were 15 separate incidents of CAIR doing this, or worse.
These are CAIR’s victims in 2018:
Jeanie Ames
Robert Gerhart
Ret. Army Lt. Col. David Bores
Diane Kozlowski
Georgia State Rep. Jason Spencer
Municipal Court Judge Sharon Dickson
ACT for America
Ypsilanti county deputy sheriff
Dixon Mayor Thom Bogue
Greenfield Middle School Principal Gregory Calvert
County Councilman John Grasso
“Scream Town” proprietor Matt Dunn
Westowne Elementary School
Patriot Prayer
and finally, the Minnesota McDonald’s manager
Some of these cases are unbelievably bad. For example, CAIR defamed Municipal Court Judge Sharon Dickson in Atlanta. CAIR had a local TV station concoct a completely fraudulent news story about a sitting judge in order to influence a legal decision. We can determine just how fraudulent the reporting on this story was by comparing the news coverage with the court transcript associated with this case. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qmX1vh4p_YA
The result of CAIR’s defamation campaign was that their client received a favorable decision on appeal while Judge Dickson resigned from the bench, and went to take a lower paying job in another city. Despite this, CAIR had the TV station pursue Dickson to her new job and broadcast CAIR’s demand to push her out of that position as well.
This year CAIR is picking up right where they left off, defaming and intimidating people left and right. This past January, it was Anabelle Lima-Taub. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q3kyhEQ37-w
The following month, in addition to the beleaguered Joe Ricketts, their new victim was restaurant owner Sean Wight. https://www.wjbf.com/news/csra-news/farmhaus-burger-on-broad-street-is-being-sued-for-discrimination/1755115258
CAIR is suing Sean Wight for religious discrimination. The only evidence they have in this matter is a supposed audio recording which they have not shared publicly. Instead, they spent the majority of their press conference defaming Wight as a bigot. The strength of their case lies in the audio recording that they have not made public because, I suspect, it does not support what they are claiming.
And, here is their latest victim, Bill Larion who CAIR is absolutely terrorizing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c8t8nEOnUr8
As I say, CAIR attacks people with the aid of the media more than once a month.
CAIR had a media analyst value their access to the media at 143 million dollars, with an estimated audience of 15 billion. Charity Navigator – Unrated Profile for Cair Foundation Inc.
Charity Navigator – Unrated Profile for Cair Foundation Inc.
And, that is just one year.
They use their astonishing media access to hurt people: school principals, elementary school plays, elected officials, judges, business owners, Facebook groups, and have been doing this for years.
I wouldn’t give these guys anything, except maybe a send up on Law&Order. You would be loved for it.
Look forward to that eventuality.

CAIR leaders must have never watched any of the versions of Law and Order because the writers have written a lot of episodes that were predicated on actual events. Some of the episodes portrayed members of the black community very realistically and they often portrayed sinister members of the Irish and Italian communities extremely harshly. It was not the first time a Muslim character was shown as the villain was an imam who killed someone (I don’t remember the details). By creating episodes about real life in real time has kept the program relevant. Dick Wolf seems happy for the program will enter its 21st year in the upcoming season. CAIR will simply have to learn to live in America or they can return to Somali, Pakistan, Syria or from what ever crap hole they slithered.

I think that is the reason Criminal Minds is being canceled. Never once did the show portray a Muslim as a perpetrator and you accurately described their unsubs. Clayton Norcroft says
The episode was, in fact, extremely accommodating to the character of the Muslim politician, and ending up by playing the same-sex card to turn her into a more sympathetic victim – in the sense of persecuted, not just a victim of crime. She was a victim of crime too, though, and completely exonerated after suspicions had been aired about her accusation.

I really hope NBC & the producers of the show do not cave in to CAIR in any way. This is an excellent opportunity to put CAIR in its place by politely telling them to piss off, or by simply ignoring them.
We need to start offending Muslims as much as possible, as often as possible, and in just about any way possible, to make them feel uncomfortable in the West. To make them feel unloved, unwelcome, & unwanted. We need to constantly look for new ways to offend them. (Obviously, it doesn’t take much.)
And we need to make a special point of letting these uppity, hyper-sensitive barbarians know that free speech is NOT negotiable and NOT for sale — that we will NOT sacrifice that right in order to show (or pretend) “respect” for them or their vile ideology.

Beliefs and Daily Lives of Muslims
Islam Timeline
Pre-Viewing Discussion
Before watching the film, help students think about what they may already know, as well as questions they may have about Islam or Muslims.
You may want to hand out the glossary to students and review the terms “Muslim,” “Arab,” and “Islam” with them prior to watching the film.
Explain to students that the film shows Muslims in six countries — Egypt, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Turkey, and the United States — and that you will be asking them to think about some specific issues while viewing. Put the following questions on the board and ask students to think about these issues as they watch the film.
What Muslim beliefs and practices do you observe in the film?
What roles do you see women playing in the film?
What are the connections between the legal system and Islam in each of the countries? What are the differences?
Are there conflicts you observe in the film between globalization and the Muslim cultures you see portrayed?
In the section on Muslims in the United States, how do the people portrayed in the film view their roles as Muslims within a non-Muslim country?
After viewing, discuss students’ responses to the questions.
Pre-Viewing Activity: Stereotypes and Myths about Islam
Description
Prior to viewing, students will write down what they know about Muslims and/or Islam. While viewing, they will look for information that confirms or contradicts what they know. After viewing, students will discuss their findings.
Instructions
Ask students to make three columns on a sheet of paper. The first column is for “Beliefs about Muslims prior to viewing.” The second column is for “Contradictions or confirmations.” The third column is a place for comments or questions to bring up for discussion after viewing the film.
Ask students to list what they know about Islam or Muslims in the first column on their sheet of paper. Typically, students will list a mixture of stereotypes and facts, so it will be important for teachers to be able to differentiate between the two. If students are quiet or in younger grades, teachers can prompt them by asking them if they know any famous Muslims. Often students will suggest people like Malcolm X or Muhammad Ali. Ask students how they know that those people are Muslim. This often gets them talking about stereotypes that they were aware of, but were not identifying as Muslim stereotypes. You can also stimulate discussion by asking students if they know what the major religions of the world are and what some of the differences are between them? This question will likely get students talking about Muslim women covering themselves, or Islam and violence.
Tell students that as they view the film, they should notice and write down in the second column whether any of the information they have written down in their first column is confirmed or contradicted. Tell them to be as specific as possible. For example, students typically list something about women not having rights. In the film, there are several examples of women working outside of the home.
Tell students that while viewing the film, they should write down in the third column any unfamiliar vocabulary, issues or questions that come up for them. You could also hand out the glossary ahead of time to help them identify or circle words they do not know.
After viewing, stimulate a discussion by asking students to share what they learned, what comments and questions they have, and what stereotypes were confirmed or contradicted. Discuss with students where some of their stereotypes might originate. For example, how have they seen Muslims portrayed on television, movies, commercials, magazines, and newspapers?

Pre- or Post-Viewing Activity: Media Analysis
Description
Students will compare coverage of Islam or Muslim related news stories, such as Ramadan, in a U.S. and Islamic newspaper.
Instructions
Have students locate a news story from an Islamic news source, centered on Islam and/or Muslims in another country. Coverage of Ramadan is a good topic to focus on for this exercise. Students can find their news story online or bring a newspaper or magazine to class. See the listing below of sample newspaper Web sites.
Have students locate coverage of the same news story in a major United States newspaper such as The New York Times.
What do students notice about the way in which the event or story is told? What is the same? What is different? What is included and excluded?
Discuss the following questions: Do you see bias in each of the news stories? Are events covered in non-U.S. newspapers that are also covered in U.S. papers?
Examples of Online newspapers (in English)

The New York Times, http://www.nyt.com
The Washington Post, http://www.Washingtonpost.com
Chicago Tribune, http://www.chicagotribune.com
Alternative
Assign students to analyze their social studies or history textbooks looking for the following: What does your book say about Islam? Does your textbook include contributions from Muslim-dominant countries as a part of world history? Is Islam mentioned in countries other than the Middle East, including the United States? How would you characterize the information your textbook tells you about Islam? (Note: This alternative is particularly useful for schools that do not have Internet access and/or access to international newspapers)
Post-Viewing Discussion Questions
Here are some questions designed to get students talking after the film:
What did you notice about the relationship between Islam and the law in the different countries in the film?
What are three things you learned about Islam from the film?
What did you learn about the influence of globalization on Muslims who do not live in the United States?
Name some of the tensions the film identifies between “the West” and Muslims
Post-Viewing Activity: Gender Issues in Islam
Students will be asked to compare and contrast the roles of men and women with regard to various topics in the six countries featured in the film.
Divide students into five topic groups: Paid labor, family, education, marriage, and activism. Alternatively, there can be six groups, one group for each country, and they can compare the roles for each of these categories.
Each group should discuss what they saw in the film about each topic or country, and prepare a brief oral report to present to the class. For each of the countries featured in the film (Egypt, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Turkey, United States) they should review the roles that Muslim men and women play with regard to each of these topics.
After each group has presented their report to the large group, discuss the similarities and differences across countries, the differences and similarities between men and women, and how these roles differ from other religions they may know about. You can also discuss any conflicts they see between the culture of the country and Muslim practices they observed in the film.
Note: The film does not cover all of these areas for each country. You can assign students to research the ‘blank spaces’ for this exercise.
